Paul Klee Locksmith Famous Painting T-Shirt. The Locksmith is one of my favourite Paul Klee paintings and typifies his simple and abstract style. Pictured in maroon, the text is personizable and can be changed or removed however you wish and the shirt is customisable to different styles, products and colours for men, women and kids. Paul Klee (1879-1940) was a German artist born in Switzerland to musical parents. As a child he was a talented violinist but decided to follow visual arts by his teens as this was a medium in which could be more expressive. In 1898 he enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich with and studied with Heinrich Knirr and Franz von Stuck. During this time he led a fairly debauched lifestyle focused on pub life and loose women. His art devloped and focused on abstract forms of expressionism, surrealism, futurism and cubism. He and his friend Wassily Kandinsky, both taught at the Bauhaus school of art, design and architecture. Klee was not just a painter but also a writer who contributed significantly to artistic theory. He joined the editorial team of the almanac Der Blaue Reiter and became an important member of it. He produced illustrations for Voltaire's Candide and his artistic work was often flecked with sarcasm and displayed a somewhat child-like attitude. His work was often considered revolutionary and his legacy comprised of some 9,000 works. A lovely birthday gift or anytime gift for an art lover.
