Paradise of Amitabha Tibetan Thangka Poster

This is a scan of an actual Tibetan thangka that I own, The Paradise of Amitābha. It has exquisite detail and eight bodhisattvas surrounding the central image, with all kinds of landscape and animal images as well. It's main colour scheme is dark blue and pearl, like pre-dawn light. Amitābha, also called Amida or Amitāyus, who is a celestial buddha described in the scriptures of the Mahāyāna Buddhism. Amitābha is the principal buddha in Pure Land Buddhism, a branch of East Asian Buddhism, while in Vajrayana, Amitābha is known for his longevity attribute, magnetising red fire element, the aggregate of discernment, pure perception and the deep awareness of emptiness of phenomena. According to these scriptures, Amitābha possesses infinite merits resulting from good deeds over countless past lives as a bodhisattva named Dharmakāra. "Amitābha" is translatable as "Infinite Light," hence Amitābha is also called "The Buddha of Immeasurable Life and Light." This thangka was acquired by my colleague Stephen Werner in Hong Kong in 1985.
