Painting "La Fuensanta" by Julio Romero de Torres Holiday Postcard

Painting "La Fuensanta" by Julio Romero de Torres Holiday Postcard

"La Fuensanta" (1929), the work of the Spanish and Andalusian painter JULIO ROMERO DE TORRES, born and deceased (November 9, 1874 - May 10, 1930) in Córdoba (Andalusia, southern Spain), where he developed almost all his work. Internationally known for his unique distinctive style and delicacy and his master's degree in female portrait; he masterfully painted the Andalusian woman, recreating allegories where he expressed extreme dualities about moral principles, values and social customs. Argentinian model María Teresa López has been a regular model of the artist since the age of fourteen (in the painter's most recognized work, "La Chiquita Piconera"). "La Fuensanta" was reproduced on the 100 Spanish peseta notes from 1955 to 1978. A black and white photograph, the only known one, was used for this purpose, as the canvas remained unknown until 2007, when it began with the exhibition "Art in Money. Money in Art" made at the Casa de la Moneda Museum in Argentina, was located in this country. In 2007, "La Fuensanta" reached 1,173,000 € ($1,589,000) in a Sotheby auction, a record number in Julio Romero de Torres' work. He was a famous painter and loved by everyone; his funeral procession brought together thousands of citizens from all walks of life; the Minister of Grace and Justice, as representative of King Alfonso XIII, presided over him while the city workers carried his coffin. Twenty-six vehicles were needed to transport the crowns of condolence arriving in the city. SPANISH ART, SPANISH PAINTING of the late 19th and first half of the 20th century.
