Owl Valentine Card

You've been chosen as a valentine by this Great Horned Owl, who nests just outside the window of the Presbyterian Church in Green Valley, AZ. This image is a close-up of the head of the owl against a textured, off-white stucco background. Predominately grey-and-tan-speckled plumage is crowned by the two feathery "ears," which are edged in black and stick out at an angle at each side of the head, forming a "V" (with white edges from eye to beak) right down to the curved black beak. A circle of black feathers surrounds the eye and extends around under the chin, with a white band across the breast under the black. Tan feathers surround the eyes, the left of which is closed and the right open just a slit. My sister, Susan Blair, took this gorgeous portrait.
