"War Is Peace" This is the first of a series of pieces inspired by Nineteen Eighty-Four. I wanted to do a series that was based on the three slogans of the party, and how they related to current events. This piece in particular was inspired by the fact that the same week Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize, he was considering putting more troops in Afghanistan. When he accepted the award, he had already made the final decision. "War Is Peace"... in many ways, that was his speech when he accepted the award, that in order for peace to be possible, there must be war. Do I agree? To a degree, yes. One must always be ready and willing to fight in order to preserve oneself, and to that degree, the only way to keep peace sometime is through violence. I hung this in the stairwell of our house, near some other Renoir pictures. My daughter says it looks like she is looking at her when she walks up the stairs.
it's called "The Excursionist", she is holding a walking stick. Renoir was an impressionist, I don't think this is an actual person. The finished framed picture arrived and looks better than the online pic - Beautiful!
