Nuku Hiva French Polynesia Postcard
Nuku Hiva is the largest of the Marquesas Islands, chraacterised by dramatic spires, deep valleys, and massive waterfalls. Unlike the lagoon-heavy Society Islands, the Marquesas are rugged and wild, with dark volcanic sand and high cliffs.
The island is steeped in ancient Polynesian history and legends, with many sacred archaeological sites hidden in the dense jungle. The bay of Taiohae is a natural amphitheatre, surrounded by steep, emerald-coloured peaks that disappear into the clouds.
