If you've ever purchased a legitimate copy of something such as an epub, and had to reenter you credit card information in order to continue reading it, you have experienced Digital Rights Management (DRM). Digital locks like the one described above can also limit users from completing legitimate acts with their software, such as make backup copies, installing application, library lending, using items in the public domain, or using copy written materials for research and educational purposes.
