Nightmare Poster
This is a reproduction of Henry Fuseli’s The Nightmare of 1781. This is the artist’s most famous work and was first displayed at the Royal Academy in London in 1782. He re-painted it three times due to its immense popularity. The painting invited criticism due to contemporary concern about its overt sexuality. There is a deliberate contrast between the light coloration of the dreaming figure of a woman and the dark features of the room. The incubus and horse are stark and disturbing creatures of the nightmare and have been variously interpreted. The great interpreter of dreams and nightmare, Sigmund Freud, is reported to have a print of this work in his apartment and Carl Jung referred to the paintng in his works. The original work is an oil on canvas measuring 40 by 50 inches and is in the Detroit Institutes of the Arts.

I hung this in the stairwell of our house, near some other Renoir pictures. My daughter says it looks like she is looking at her when she walks up the stairs.
it's called "The Excursionist", she is holding a walking stick. Renoir was an impressionist, I don't think this is an actual person. The finished framed picture arrived and looks better than the online pic - Beautiful!

Absolutely superb Art Deco poster. The colours are vibrant, sympathetic to the era and perfect for use. I framed it and hung above the entrance to my Art Deco inspired lounge room. Stunning!
