This drawing is by eminent British-American canine painter, Maud Alice Earl (1864-1943). Earl became famous during the Victorian Era, a time when women were not expected to make their living at painting. Nevertheless, she developed a select clientele, including Royals amongst her patrons such as Queen Victoria and Queen Alexandra. The Duchess of Newcastle was one of Earl's most important patrons. These are three of the duchess's Borzoi—"Vitim," "Champion Vassal," and "Champion Ivan Turgeneff."
