Mucha - Slavia - Secession Magnet
This is the central detail of the painting "Slavia" (Portrait of Mary Josephine Crane Bradley)," by Alphonse Mucha. It was painted in 1908. The woman in this painting represents Slavia, Mucha's homeland. She is, in fact, Mary Josephine Crane Bradley, daughter of Mucha's friend and patron. She is a symbol of the former Czechoslovakian Republic (now the Czech Republic and Slovakia) in the same way than Uncle Sam is a symbol of America.
