Mt. Hood from Rocky Butte, Portland, Oregon Playing Cards

A perfect view of Mount Hood from the top of Rocky Butte in Portland, Oregon. Rocky Butte is an extinct volcanic cinder cone that is part of the Boring Lava Field, which is a group of volcanic vents & lava flows throughout both Oregon & Washington. It erupted between 285,000 and 500,000 years ago, & is considered an outlier of the Cascade Range. In the 1940's, they constructed the Multnomah County Jail on top of Rocky Butte until it was demolished in 1983. Most of the rocks used to build the jail were used from the quarry on the eastern side, & after it was removed & taken to be used for restoring the Columbia River Highway. Full of history, this is a great place to view the mountain peaks!
