The origin on that titbit makes even more sense when you consider that as early as 2,000 B.C., anglers in China and Egypt were using fishing rods, although most were still using handlines. It is also believed that ancient Chinese fishermen are thought to be the first to make fishing line. Those first lines were made, of course, of spun silk -- a far cry from today's monofilaments.
