Mount Kazbek Georgia Postcard
Mount Kazbek is a massive, dormant stratovolcano and one of the highest mountains in the Caucasus, situated on the border between Georgia's Stepantsminda district and the Russian republic of North Ossetia–Alania. Reaching an elevation of 5,047 metres (16,558 ft), it dominates the skyline above the town of Kazbegi (Stepantsminda). Its snow-capped peak is a legendary sight, interwoven with Georgian folklore, including the tale of Amirani, the Georgian equivalent of Prometheus, who was said to be chained to the mountain.
The town of Kazbegi, located at the base of Mount Kazbek along the Georgian Military Highway, serves as the main gateway for trekkers and climbers. The area is famous not only for the peak itself but also for the Gergeti Trinity Church, a 14th-century monastery spectacularly perched on a hill facing Kazbegi, with Mount Kazbek as its backdrop. This combination of natural beauty and cultural heritage makes Kazbegi a popular destination for hikers, mountaineers, and travelers seeking breathtaking views and mountain adventures.
