The hot spring, which is in the Upper Geyser Basin, surrounded by a colourful mineral-rich area, reflecting trees and sky. The natural landscape around Morning Glory Pool is lush with greenery and partially covered with mist. Vibrant blue, green and yellow colours are visible through the clear water. Morning Glory Pool, also called Morning Glory Spring, is a mile on the boardwalk from Old Faithful. It was more of a cerulean blue then, but tourists have thrown garbage into the pool, clogging some of the vents, reducing the hot water supply, and which alters the appearance and colour of the pool. The colour of the pool is partly due to thermopile bacteria, which inhabit the water. A thermophile is an organism—a type of extremophile—that thrives at relatively high temperatures, between 41 and 122 °C (106 and 252 °F). Sadly, Morning Glory Pool has become a Faded Glory, according to a sign at the pool warning against vandalism. This photograph was taken on September 9, 2022.
