Impression, Soleil Levant (Impression, Sunrise) by Claude Monet. The term Impressionism is derived from this landmark painting by Claude Monet whose title reads—Impression, Sunrise. This landscape / waterscape painting depicts Le Havre harbour at dawn in tonalities of blue, green, aqua, and aquamarine contrasted by the small yet piercingly intense red – orange sphere of the distant rising sun—with the warm glow of its myriad reflections on the surface of the water. Executed in 1872. Housed at the Musée Marmottan Monet in Paris, France.
