MINAMOTO no Yoritomo, Seii Taishogun (literally, " T-Shirt

MINAMOTO no Yoritomo was a busho (Japanese military commander) and statesman who lived from the end of the Heian period to the early Kamakura period. He was the first Seii Taishogun (literally, "great general who subdues the barbarians") of the Kamakura bakufu (Japanese feudal government headed by a shogun) (Kamakura-dono). He was born as the third son of MINAMOTO no Yoshitomo of the Kawachi-Genji (Minamoto clan), which was a branch of the Seiwa-Genji (Minamoto clan), and when his father Yoshitomo was defeated in the Heiji War, he was exiled to Izu Province. When Prince Mochihito issued an order in Izu, he raised an army with Bando samurai including Tokimasa HOJO and Yoshitoki HOJO to overthrow the Taira family, and took Kamakura as his base to conquer the Kanto region. After defeating the Taira family with his younger brothers as daikan (local governor) and expelling their youngest brother MINAMOTO no Yoshitsune, who had distinguished himself in the war, he strengthened his power by placing shugo (provincial constable) and jito (manager and lord of manor) in various provinces, and destroyed the Oshu-Fujiwara clan in the Battle of Oshu. In 1192, he was appointed Seii Taishogun (literally, "great general who subdues the barbarians"). As a result, unlike the Taira clan administration, which had power in Kyoto as the Imperial Court, an independent samurai government was established in Togoku and was later called the Kamakura bakufu.

Great idea! I have purchased several of these elemental T-shirts over the years, and this one is my favourite! Clean and clear print, centred well on the shirt. No fading or peeling from washing.
