Mermaid on the Beach Ceramic Tile
This design features a painting by the English artist John William Waterhouse (1849–1917). It shows a mermaid on a rocky beach. She is combing her long brown hair as she relaxes. A mermaid is a mythological creature with a female human head and upper body and the tail of a fish. Mermaids are said to live mostly in the water, although they sometimes come out of the water and sit on the large rocks above the sea, where they tempt sailors with their siren-like calls. The mermaid shown here is a creature of incredible beauty. The original artwork was painted in 1900.
