The megalodon was a giant shark that lived in prehistoric times. It probably became extinct in the Pleistocene epoch probably about 1.5 million years ago, although some fisherman in the South Pacific report sightings of giant sharks to this day. Megalodon was the apex predator of its time and is the largest carnivorous fish ever known to have existed.
