Once most American homes had an oven, a freezer and a television, Americans were ready for TV Dinners. Launched in the 1950s, TV dinners became very popular for their convenience. The frozen meals came with fried chicken, salisbury steak or meatloaf. There was always mashed potatoes, a side vegetable, usually peas, and a dessert. And some also came with a soup.
