Mechelen is one of Flanders' prominent cities of historical art, with Antwerp, Bruges, Brussels, Ghent, and Leuven. St. Rumbold's Cathedral (Dutch: Sint-Romboutskathedraal) is the Belgian metropolitan archiepiscopal cathedral in Mechelen, dedicated to Saint Rumbold, Construction begun as early as 1200 AD. The tower was never finished and rises to 77 metres, while it was first designed to be the highest church tower ever at 167 metres.
