McClurg Scottish Crest T-Shirt

McClurg Scottish Crest T-Shirt

In 1306, Robert the Bruce was crowned king of Scotland. But the English King Edward I did not acknowledge him and his forces defeated Robert in the Battle of Methven, forcing him to flee into hiding. Tired, hungry, exhausted, and alone, Robert continued his run. He came across a small house in Galloway while fleeing. where the widow, Annabel, of Craigencalle, the Crag of the old woman, lived with her 3 sons by the names of Peter McClurg, Mackie of Lurg and Murdoch. Annabel fed him, dried his clothes by the fire and gave him a place to sleep while the 3 sons kept watch to protect him until he left. She asked Bruce where are your men. He replied I have none at the moment, therefore I must travel alone. Annabel said that must not be. I have stout trustworthy son who shall be your servants for life. Bruce called upon them to show their skill. Mackie pierced the head of 2 crows on a rock with a single arrow. Murdock pierced the heart of a raven flying overhead that fell at his feet. McClurg nicked the tail feathers of a raven. Nevertheless Bruce accepted all of them and the next day they escorted and protected him on the way to meet up with his few troops that remained. The brothers devised a plan to trick King Edward’s men. The gathered all the cattle from surrounding farms and the night before the next battle at Raploch Moor drove the cattle around and around the English king's army all night out of sight, yelling orders from different sides, giving the impression Bruce had a much larger army than his 300 men. One English historian numbered the Scots at 10,000. The English had mustered an army of 800 but were demoralised. Bruce attacked at dawn causing panic to the enemy who fled. Edward I, died in 1307. After the Battle of Bannockurnock, June 23, 1314, Bruce wished to reward the 3 brothers who had served with him in all his campaigns and became high officers in his service. They asked permission to refer the question to their mother. who said she “would like a wee bit of hassock atween Palnure and Penkill,” It was a triangle of land with a bass of 3 miles along the river Cree extending 5 miles back into the interior. Bruce gave the widow a “wee bit of hassock” to her which was divided between 3 sons, Mackie of Lurg, Murdoch of Cumloden, and McClurg of Kirouchtree. Bruce then granted them a coat of arms, recorded in the Lyon Register: distinctive heraldic bearings or shield and a crest “a raven rising, sable, having an arrow thrust through his heart, gulls headed and feathered, argent. Motto OMNIA PRO BONO. Edward II was deposed in January 1327 and Edward III recognised Bruce as King of Scotland in 1327. The gravestone stone with the name McClurg is at Minnigaff parrish churchyard, Newton-Stewart, a former burgh town in the historical county of Wigtownshire in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. The stone has this crest and motto which means All for Good.

The Shirt itself is a really nice, high quality material. Its quite thick and the colour is spot on whats in the pictures. The print is 100% what I wanted and the overall product is amazing. I ordered a 2XL which is already pretty big, it came a lot larger than I expected so next time i would order a smaller size, but thats down to me. It came just in time and the staff were super helpful in speeding up the shipping process for me so it would arrive on time. The printing turned out better than i could've imagined. I was very skeptical at first and wasnt sure how it was going to look, but it honestly looks awesome. So happy with it :)
