Mary D. Hume, Gold Beach, Oregon Ceramic Ornament

The Mary D. Hume was built in 1881 in Gold Beach, Oregon, by a pioneer named R. D. Hume. He named it after his wife & it was originally used for his cannery. The steamer was also used as a tugboat, whaler, & coastal freighter for a total of 97 years of service! In 1977 it was retired & returned back to Gold Beach. It began to sink in 1985 in the Rogue River & has remained there ever since. it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, & still holds the record for the longest serving vessel of the Pacific Coast! I was extremely happy to find a tree ornament for my Occupational Therapist daughter. (I bought one a few years ago for my Paramedic son) & prior to seeing this I was trying to work out how I could create something similar for her. Unfortunately my first order was deemed lost in the mail which meant it didn't arrive in time to give my daughter when she finished Uni.
