Black and white silhouette designs of a beetle. Manticora is a well-known genus of tiger beetle that is native to Africa. These beetles are among the largest predatory insects, and are highly prized among beetle collectors. All species are darkly coloured, nocturnal, and flightless, and the males usually have exaggerated mandibles that are probably the reason that beetles get a bad rap as being evil creatures. This particular silhouette image comes from a public domain image in the From 1911 Encyclopaedia Britannica.
