The Maneki Neko is a Japanese bobtail cat, also known as the beckoning cat. The calico cat sits with one paw raised to beckon good luck, wealth, and prosperity. The Maneki Neko is a stylised image of a Japanese bobtail cat. The inside of the cat's ears are always red, and this calico cat has black spots ringed with brown circles. Usually the Maneki Neko wears a collar, the most common colour is red. The collar is usually decorated and one of the most common designs is a stylised cherry blossom. There is always a gold Ryo, either hanging from the collar, or held by the Maneki Neko, to symbolise the wealth being summoned. The Ryo is a form of Japnese currency worth 5000 yen, and only wealthy people had Ryos.
