Mah-Jong Flower tile Puzzle
The picture is taken from a Mah-Jong set tile made from bone and bamboo (dovetailed together).
The set was probably made in China between 1920 and 1940.
The actual tile is quite small (measuring just 1.8cm x 2.5cm - 0.7" x 1") and, although the artists probably worked with magnifying glasses, inevitably there were brush strokes that went astray.
My original photograph showed all this, but I spent a lot of time tidying up the image using a photo design tool – getting rid of mis-strokes and smudges, and copying brushstrokes to places in the engraving that had been missed out.

I was a bit disappointed to find that for the price the puzzle was only a small 252 pieces ..... but ....... it is so intricate that if it was bigger I would be frazzled by now
bought as a special Christmas jigsaw for work colleagues to play with in our breaks - it is a great way to get the team to collaborate on something fun, and to start conversations between folk, and a great positive opportunity to provide compliments on the effort put in and progress being made
the puzzle itself is beautifully made - each piece feels lovely (not a cheap cardboard puzzle) and the shapes are all similar but different
Still a work in progress after a week - it's great!!!!
a truly lovely thing ... it will come out each year - both at work and at home. great image, and fantastic finish on the pieces
