The calendar of the Mixtec people was based on a 260 day year. The days are marked by a both a number and a symbol. New Year's day is 1 crocodile; the following day is 2 wind. The numbers run from 1 to 13 and then reset. So the day after 13 reed is 1 jaguar. Twenty repetitions of the numbers 1 throught 13 yields 260 days.
