"Madawaska River Crossing" oil on canvas, 10 x 10 in. painted by Aleta Karstad on the "Vulnerable Watersheds Expedition" Painted just downstream of where the Trans Canada Pipeline crosses the Madawaska River, near Stewartsville, Renfrew County, Ontario. Aleta Karstad paints on site, 'en plein air', capturing the essence of each place in oil on canvas, while her biologist husband Fred Schueler explores nearby, preserving a record of vulnerable species and habitats that "might be lost" downstream of pipeline crossings all along the route, from Alberta to New Brunswick In their independent ecological survey of the proposed route of the Energy East Pipeline in 2014.
