Luna the Boston Terrier is being serious cosplaying the American aviator and aviation pioneer, who became one of the most celebrated figures in early flight, Amelia Earhart. In 1928, Amelia was the first female passenger to cross the Atlantic by aeroplane. In 1932, she became the first woman to make a nonstop solo transatlantic flight, and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for her achievement. She was one of the first aviators to promote commercial air travel, wrote best-selling books about her flying experiences, and helped found the Ninety-Nines, an organisation for female pilots. On July 2, 1937, she disappeared over the Pacific Ocean while attempting to become the first female pilot to circumnavigate the world. Amelia is ranked ninth on Flying's list of the 51 Heroes of Aviation. Amelia's vast accomplishments in aviation inspired a generation of female aviators, including more-than 1,000 female pilots of the Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASPs), who served during World War II.
