Louis XIV 'Gentry @ Versailles - Pierre Brissaudin Lumbar Cushion

This scene is from an original watercolour, painted by Pierre Brissaudin (1885-1964). From a series of 'French Aristocracy', it shows the Aristocrats from the time of Louis XIV parading in front of the magnificent fountains. In the background is the palace. He is a well-known artist, best known for his stylish Art Deco illustrations for the likes of 'Vogue Magazine', including cover art in the pre-war years. Between the wars he was very prolific in magazine & book illustration, including 'Vanity Fair' and 'House & Garden'. After WWII, he was a well respected traditional illustrator, and commissioned by quality publishers such as The Limited Edition Club. The series of watercolours these come from were probably intended for some such quality work, as yet untraced. These finely illustrated watercolours relate to this period, the 1950's, when he was at his best.
