Louis Wain Cats Bedtime Poster
This reproduction is of Louis Wain's Cats in the Dormitory . Wain's life was an interesting one. He married the nanny of his sister (a woman who was ten years his senior which was scandalous at the time). However, three years after they were married, she developed breast cancer and her cat gave her great comfort and so he began to do extensive sketches of cats. Wain's illustrations often parodied human behaviour, satirising fads and fashions of the day. He wrote, "I take a sketch-book to a restaurant, or other public place, and draw the people in their different positions as cats, getting as near to their human characteristics as possible. This gives me doubly nature, and these studies I think [to be] my best humourous work."

I hung this in the stairwell of our house, near some other Renoir pictures. My daughter says it looks like she is looking at her when she walks up the stairs.
it's called "The Excursionist", she is holding a walking stick. Renoir was an impressionist, I don't think this is an actual person. The finished framed picture arrived and looks better than the online pic - Beautiful!
