Lorelei Rock is a towering, 433-foot-high slate cliff looming over the narrowest and deepest point of the Rhine River near St. Goarshausen, Germany. This dramatic geological feature is famous for its treacherous currents, which historically caused numerous shipping accidents, and the enduring 19th-century legend of Lorelei—a beautiful maiden who sat atop the rock, combing her golden hair and singing a melody so enchanting that it distracted sailors, luring them to shipwreck on the reefs below.
Today, the site is a crown jewel of the Upper Middle Rhine Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage site celebrated for its stunning natural beauty, cultural history, and terraced vineyards.
