Living and Dead Sand Dollar Postcard

The Sand Dollar - Every year tourists scour the beach for sand dollars. A living sand dollar will have a greenish or purplish brown colour with a velvet coating and the cilia will be very gently moving. A dead sand dollar will be grey or white in colour . Living sand dollars should be left alone . In South Carolina, it is illegal to remove a living sand dollar. A grey or white sand dollar is no longer living, and can be collected . Once collected , a good soak in clean , fresh water with 2 drops of bleach will turn your grey sand dollar into a white, crisp souvenir. NEVER collect a living sand dollar. Removing these living creatures helps to destroy the environment . The animal's death , whilst sitting in your bucket will be long and painful. Stick to the washed up skeleton's to collect and clean . Keep the environment beautiful and healthy, and let sand dollars live out their life.
