Blue-Streaked Lory, Trichoglossus reticulatus Poster

Blue-Streaked Lory, Trichoglossus reticulatus Poster

The Blue-Streaked Lory (Trichoglossus reticulatus) is a striking parrot species native to the islands of Indonesia, particularly the Tanimbar archipelago. Known for its vivid plumage, this bird displays a rich combination of deep crimson, layered with delicate blue streaks across its feathers—giving rise to its distinctive “scaled” or “reticulated” appearance. Its strong, curved beak and agile feet make it well adapted for feeding on nectar, fruits, and blossoms, a diet typical of lories. The long, tapered tail and sleek body further enhance its elegant silhouette, as captured in classical ornithological illustrations. This particular style of depiction recalls the work of Jacques Barraband, a renowned 18th–19th century artist celebrated for his detailed and lifelike bird illustrations. In pieces such as Le Lori écaille, Barraband combined scientific precision with artistic refinement, helping document exotic species for European audiences. His engravings often emphasized feather texture and coloration, which is especially fitting for the Blue-Streaked Lory, whose plumage pattern is one of its most defining characteristics. From an ecological standpoint, the Blue-Streaked Lory plays an important role as a pollinator within its native habitat, transferring pollen as it feeds on nectar-rich flowers. However, like many island species, it faces threats from habitat loss and the pet trade. Today, conservation awareness is crucial to ensure its survival. Historical artworks like those inspired by Barraband not only preserve the visual legacy of such species but also continue to spark interest in their protection, making them valuable both scientifically and culturally.

I hung this in the stairwell of our house, near some other Renoir pictures. My daughter says it looks like she is looking at her when she walks up the stairs. it's called "The Excursionist", she is holding a walking stick. Renoir was an impressionist, I don't think this is an actual person. The finished framed picture arrived and looks better than the online pic - Beautiful!

Absolutely superb Art Deco poster. The colours are vibrant, sympathetic to the era and perfect for use. I framed it and hung above the entrance to my Art Deco inspired lounge room. Stunning! The print is precise, clear and of an excellent standard. It was cleverly packaged so there wasn’t a blemish or crease. Perfect!
