From an original watercolor painting of Lapwings (also known as Northern Lapwings or Green Plover) at Slimbridge wetland reserve. This beautiful bird is an occasional vagrant in North America and well-loved in the UK. Sadly now a declining species, it defends its territory vigourously while nesting and is known for its distinctive shrill call, hence the alternative name of Peewit.
