Giovanni Boldini Portrait of the Marchesa Luisa Casati with a Greyhound postcard. Oil on canvas from 1908. Giovanni Boldini was one of the great European portraitists of the early twentieth century. Renowned for his fluid “swishy” style, his realist portraits intelligently incorporated elements of both expressionism and impressionism. Lady in Black with a Greyhound (Portrait of the Marchesa Luisa Casati) features an elegant young lady wearing a black gown with purple sash. She also wears long white satin gloves and a big feathery black hat. At her feet sits an elegant black greyhound with a fancy colar and leash.
