Kuniyoshi Vintage Japan Warrier Akechi Mitsuhide Postcard
This vintage Japanese art postcard features the woodblock print depicting war hero Akechi Mitsuhide from Kuniyoshi’s series Taiheiki Eiyuden or “Heroes of the Great Peace” (1846-47). He was a Japanese samurai general of the Sengoku period best known as the assassin of Oda Nobunaga. The artist of this work, Utagawa Kuniyoshi, was an undisputed master of the warrior woodblock print and one of the last great names in the Japanese ukiyo-e style. Born in Tokyo in 1797, he became an apprentice to a famous print master at the age of 12.
