Many people believe that koalas are members of the bear family, but they aren't even related to bears. The koala is related to the kangaroo and the wombat and is a mammal. The koala is thought of as a bear because it resembles a "teddy bear" stuffed animal. The species are found in Australia and it is reported that there are only 2,000 to 8,000 koalas left in the wild! Not officially classified as endangered, the population of Australian koalas has dropped by 90% in less than a decade due to a reduction of habitat! This was exactly what was wanted for my piano crazy grandson! He is self taught & is now having lessons by a top teacher and has been asked to play at various venues in the US!
