Kanji numeral eight, in circle tie
In Japanese, this is a KAMON that is called "Maru-ni hachi-no-ji". / The numeral eight was appreciated because its shape broadens towards the bottom. In addition, it is the initial letter of Hachiman Bodhisattva, a war god. These seem to be the main reasons this character were used for family crests.
