Kaiser Wilhelm I Statue Poster
The Equestrian statue of Kaiser Wilhelm I at the Deutsches Eck of Koblenz, Germany.
The Kaiser Wilhelm I statue in Koblenz, Germany, stands as a historic monument dedicated to the first German Emperor, Wilhelm I. The statue is part of the larger equestrian monument known as the "Deutsches Eck" (German Corner), situated at the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle rivers. The idea for the monument originated in the late 19th century, following the death of Wilhelm I in 1888. The renowned German architect Bruno Schmitz designed the monument, which features a massive equestrian statue of Kaiser Wilhelm I atop a pedestal adorned with reliefs depicting important events in German history.
The Kaiser Wilhelm I statue was inaugurated in 1897, symbolizing the unification of the German Empire in 1871. The monument served as a patriotic symbol, celebrating the achievements of the newly unified German nation. However, its significance transcended the nationalistic sentiments of the time, as it also aimed to foster a sense of unity and strength among the German people. The location of the monument at the strategic confluence of two major rivers further emphasized its symbolic importance, representing the unity of the North and South German states that came together under Wilhelm I's leadership.
After World War II, the "Deutsches Eck" became a symbol of division during the Cold War, with the statue standing in West Germany and the opposite bank of the Rhine controlled by East Germany. Following German reunification in 1990, the Kaiser Wilhelm I statue and the "Deutsches Eck" underwent restoration, reaffirming its status as a symbol of German unity and history. Today, the monument remains a prominent landmark in Koblenz, attracting visitors from around the world and serving as a reminder of Germany's complex historical journey towards unification.

I hung this in the stairwell of our house, near some other Renoir pictures. My daughter says it looks like she is looking at her when she walks up the stairs.
it's called "The Excursionist", she is holding a walking stick. Renoir was an impressionist, I don't think this is an actual person. The finished framed picture arrived and looks better than the online pic - Beautiful!

Absolutely superb Art Deco poster. The colours are vibrant, sympathetic to the era and perfect for use. I framed it and hung above the entrance to my Art Deco inspired lounge room. Stunning! The print is precise, clear and of an excellent standard. It was cleverly packaged so there wasn’t a blemish or crease. Perfect!
