Kagu at Tashirojima (Inspiration) Poster

Kagu at Tashirojima (Inspiration) Poster

Kagu at Tashirojima (Inspiration) This is a whimsical, digitally-rendered scene set on a bustling seaside dock, likely in a Japanese coastal town, featuring a mix of stylised characters. The central figure is an oversized, anthropomorphic bird character, reminiscent of a Yanbaru Kuina figure due to its large head, simple features, and solid, chunky body. It has grey and white plumage, a red beak, and large black eyes. The bird is standing on the stone pier, facing slightly towards the right side of the frame. Surrounding the large bird are numerous small, cute, and chunky cats in various poses. The cats are also stylised, with big eyes and rounded features. They come in a few colours: white, black, light grey, and a pale peach or tan. Some are sitting, some are playfully reaching out, and one cat in the foreground on the left is in a walking pose. They appear to be interacting with the large bird, creating a sense of a playful gathering. In the background, the scene shows more realistic elements of a fishing port. The calm blue water of the harbour is filled with traditional wooden fishing boats. On the boats and the dock, there are several human figures dressed in what appear to be traditional Japanese work clothes, suggesting a busy, everyday atmosphere. Buildings with traditional architecture line the far side of the dock, and a few people can be seen walking along the waterfront. The sky is bright and clear with some wispy clouds, and the lighting is vibrant, suggesting a sunny day. Overall, the image blends a stylised, Yanabru Kuina-like foreground with a realistic, detailed background, creating a charming and surreal contrast. 🐾 Tashirojima: Japan’s Enchanted Cat Island Nestled off the coast of Ishinomaki in Miyagi Prefecture, **Tashirojima (田代島)** is a tiny island with a big reputation—known affectionately as *Cat Island*. Here, cats outnumber humans nearly four to one, roaming freely through fishing villages and forested paths. Originally brought to protect silkworm farms from rodents, the cats became symbols of luck and prosperity, revered by local fishermen who built a **cat shrine (Nekokamisama)** to honour their feline guardians. Tashirojima isn’t just a sanctuary for cats—it’s a canvas for creativity. The southern tip hosts **Manga Island**, a whimsical resort featuring cat-shaped cottages adorned with artwork by legendary manga artists like Shotaro Ishinomori. With no dogs allowed and a community deeply rooted in tradition, the island offers a rare glimpse into a harmonious coexistence between people, nature, and mythology. Whether you're drawn by the spiritual folklore, the manga-inspired architecture, or the quiet companionship of its furry residents, Tashirojima invites you to slow down, wander, and connect—with culture, with nature, and maybe with a cat or two curled up in the sun.

I hung this in the stairwell of our house, near some other Renoir pictures. My daughter says it looks like she is looking at her when she walks up the stairs. it's called "The Excursionist", she is holding a walking stick. Renoir was an impressionist, I don't think this is an actual person. The finished framed picture arrived and looks better than the online pic - Beautiful!

Absolutely superb Art Deco poster. The colours are vibrant, sympathetic to the era and perfect for use. I framed it and hung above the entrance to my Art Deco inspired lounge room. Stunning! The print is precise, clear and of an excellent standard. It was cleverly packaged so there wasn’t a blemish or crease. Perfect!
