Comissioned by Andrew Noel Angew, the work depics the baron’s young wife Gertrude Vernon sitting in an floral upholstered chair wearing a flowing Edwardian dress with semi-translucent sleeves and lilac sash. The young lady gazes elegantly towards the viewer wearing a jewelled necklace and gold bracelet with her dark hair done up. A beautiful gift for fans of John Singer Sargent, Edwardian high society, and elegant portraits.
