Japanese Ink on paper Gibbons Primates & Landscape
Artwork by Japanese artist, Sesson Shūkei (ca. 1504–ca. 1589)
"猿猴捉月図屏風 - Gibbons in a Landscape
Artist: Sesson Shūkei (ca. 1504–ca. 1589)
Period: Muromachi period (1392–1573)
Date: ca. 1570
Culture: Japan
Medium: Pair of six-panel screens; ink on paper
The gibbon, native to the forested mountains of southern China, is known in Japan only through painting and poetry. In literary contexts, its cry is associated with the elevated spirit of solitude, and in Daoist lore with a superior life force. Japanese Zen monks treasured images of gibbons painted by the Chinese monk Muqi (ca. 1210–after 1269), and by the late fifteenth century paintings of gibbons in the manner of this artist had become a favored subject for screen decoration. Here a chain of gibbons is shown reaching futilely for a reflection of the moon, a symbol of enlightenment. This scene illustrates a fundamental Zen paradox: if one is deliberately or overly anxiously trying to attain enlightenment, then that spiritual path will not lead to true enlightenment.
As reflected in the subject matter of many of his paintings, Sesson was a Zen monk-artist. He was a highly learned and prolific painter who studied a wide array of earlier Chinese ink painting styles and played a major role in the creation of a distinctive Japanese style of so-called Zen ink painting."

This product, in itself is very good - good quality, bright colours and exactly as it looks on the website, however, I was quite disappointed when it arrived, as I was expecting the stationary to be in A4 size, when in fact it was only A5.
It is still perfectly usable but I'll end up using twice as much when writing letters to friends & family.
Zazzle, please make clear on your website what the sizes are when being purchased.
Other than that, I have no issues whatsoever with everything I've purchased so far, everything is of an excellent quality and the delivery times are amazingly quick. I will keep purchasing from Zazzle and recommend them to everyone at every opportunity. Keep up the excellent work! The printing is exactly as shown on the website. The colours are vivid and design is great. My only wish is that you give the option of A4 size in stationary writing paper.

I have ordered this product previously, however, last time it was a far better product.
This time round, I’m very disappointed in the quality. The paper is cheap and not the same weight, the colour is not crisp and the envelop that zazzle recommended is not fit for purpose.
The pairing of these products was set by zazzle and they do not work together.
Probably find a more reputable site that is able to be contacted quickly- within Australia. Ok- but paper weight is not as advertised
