This original watercolor painting shows the garden behind Jane Austen's cottage in Chawton (now Jane Austen's House Museum), where she lived with her mother and sister, and from which all her books were published. Taken from an original painting by award-winning watercolor artist, Carolyn Marshall Wright; based on a photo taken by author Lori Smith, during research for her book, A Walk with Jane Austen. The quote on the back is from Fanny in Mansfield Park: " . . . to sit in the shade on a fine day, and look upon verdure, is the most perfect refreshment."
