The Bridesmaid depicts a pretty young woman in a lavender Victorian dress climbing into a horse drawn carriage on her friend’s wedding day. The carriage door is held open by a young man in a tuxedo wearing a top hat and holding a black umbrella. Passersby watch the scene as they walk down the busy London street. The young woman’s elegant purple bridesmaid dress cleverly draws the viewer’s attention to the centre of the painting.
