James Buchanan Poster

James Buchanan Poster

President James Buchanan. James Buchanan, born on April 23, 1791, in Cove Gap, Pennsylvania, was the 15th President of the United States, serving from 1857 to 1861. Buchanan's early education and legal career set the stage for his entry into politics. He served in the Pennsylvania State Legislature and later in the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate, establishing himself as a prominent Democratic politician. Buchanan's diplomatic career included serving as Minister to Russia and Minister to the United Kingdom, where he gained experience in international relations. His work on the controversial Ostend Manifesto, which advocated the acquisition of Cuba, raised his national profile. Buchanan's long and distinguished political career culminated in his election as President in 1856. As President, Buchanan faced escalating sectional tensions between the North and the South over issues like slavery and the status of newly admitted territories. His approach to these issues, including the controversial Kansas-Nebraska Act, fueled further discord and failed to avert the impending crisis. The Supreme Court's ruling in the Dred Scott case during his presidency exacerbated the divisions. Buchanan's perceived indecisiveness and his handling of events leading up to the Civil War have led some historians to criticize his legacy. Buchanan retired from politics after his presidency and lived out the remainder of his life in relative seclusion at Wheatland, his estate in Pennsylvania. He died on June 1, 1868. While his presidency is often criticized for its handling of the prelude to the Civil War, Buchanan's long and varied political career is an essential part of the broader narrative of 19th-century American politics.

I hung this in the stairwell of our house, near some other Renoir pictures. My daughter says it looks like she is looking at her when she walks up the stairs. it's called "The Excursionist", she is holding a walking stick. Renoir was an impressionist, I don't think this is an actual person. The finished framed picture arrived and looks better than the online pic - Beautiful!

Absolutely superb Art Deco poster. The colours are vibrant, sympathetic to the era and perfect for use. I framed it and hung above the entrance to my Art Deco inspired lounge room. Stunning! The print is precise, clear and of an excellent standard. It was cleverly packaged so there wasn’t a blemish or crease. Perfect!
