Irises was painted in 1889 while Vincent van Gogh was living at the asylum at Saint Paul-de-Mausole in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, France, in the last year before his death in 1890. A stunning display of violet irises with vibrant green leaves, rich terracotta soil, against a back drop of bright orange marigolds and one single white iris. I bought this as a little extra gift for my friend for her suprise bridal shower as we were doing a clay making class so it was to protect her outfit! But it’s so beautiful she is also going to keep it for her kitchen (she loves baking).
