It is the first (and currently only) national cemetery in Washington state. It has undergone major expansions:2006: Added thousands of columbarium niches and pre-placed crypts, plus a third committal shelter. 2014: Large Phase II expansion that added even more burial capacity, including garden cremation sites and memorial walls. What It Looks Like The cemetery sits on rolling green hills surrounded by trees. On clear days, Mount Rainier is visible in the distance — a very scenic and peaceful setting. It features: Large, orderly rows of white marble headstones (many in the shape of crosses) Well-maintained lawns Forested background Multiple committal shelters for services This matches the photos you’ve been uploading (the wide fields of white crosses under a blue sky with trees in the background).Visiting Information Grounds Hours: Open daily from 6:00 a.m. until dusk (typically closes between 6:00–9:00 p.m. depending on the season). Office Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (closed most federal holidays except Memorial Day and Veterans Day). The cemetery is open to the public for quiet visits and paying respects. There is a kiosk on site for locating graves. Noteable Features Strong volunteer Honour Guard program that provides military honours for the majority of burials. Memorial Walkway with monuments honouring veterans of 20th-century wars. Carillon (bell tower) installed in 2010. Beautiful natural setting with views of Mount Rainier.
