I Heart Youkai! Bumper Sticker

The bluish fireball is called a hitodama, and is the traditional Japanese representation of a human spirit. Similar to a will o' the wisp in European folklore, hitodama are balls of pale blue flame seen floating around in forests and graveyards. When actual human-form ghosts, called yurei or yuurei, are depicted in Japan, they are often accompanied by several floating hitodama. The term hitodama means "human soul."
