Hussar on Horseback - Cavalry Officer, Folk Art
The image of a Hussar (Cavalry Officer) is inspired by the wood relief carvings on an antique folk art butter mould. Hussars were a type of light cavalry which emerged in mediaeval Hungary and spread throughout Europe, notably Serbia – husar – Poland –Husarz- Prussia and France (Hussard). Frederick The Great of Prussia relied heavily on Hussars, as did Poland and Lithuania. Hussars also played a prominent role as cavalry in the Napoleonic Wars (1796–1815). The colourful uniforms worn by Hussars were inspired by Hungarian costumes. Hussards typically had long moustaches and long hair. Legend depicts them as dashing, unruly and prone to womanising.

Lovely quality cards. Nice to get a real traditional Chrismassy theme in Australia, not the beach and Australian animals stuff. Excellent, would use again
