In a November 2007 conference, King Carlos roared "Why don't you shut up?" at Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, who scathingly criticised Spain's former prime minister. When these two reconciled after about eight months, King Carlos gave Chavez a gift with "Why don't you shut up?" written on it.
